KATHMANDU: Decisive negotiations have begun among the three major factions of the Nepali Congress in an effort to resolve the deepening internal deadlock within the party.

Leaders from the establishment camp, the Shekhar Koirala faction, and the pro–Special General Convention group entered talks early Tuesday morning, aiming to address the new political equations and disputes triggered by the Special General Convention.

The tripartite meeting, currently underway at the residence of a senior leader in Lazimpat, is being viewed as a final attempt to prevent a possible party split and preserve unity.

Influential leaders from all three sides are participating in the dialogue.

Representing the pro–Special General Convention group are Pradeep Paudel, Gururaj Ghimire, Devaraj Lise, and Madhu Acharya.

From the Shekhar Koirala camp, Jeevan Pariyar and Dr. Minendra Rijal are attending the talks. Meanwhile, Ramesh Lekhak and Balkrishna Khand from the establishment (Deuba) faction are facilitating the negotiations.

On Monday, party general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma met Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka to convey their bottom line.

Sources say the current discussions are centered on the same stance put forward by the general secretaries and the issue of formally owning and institutionalizing the Special General Convention process.

Party insiders believe the outcome of these talks will be crucial in determining the future direction of the Nepali Congress.
