KATHMANDU: Three children from the Chepang community have died after falling critically ill from suspected wild mushroom poisoning in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–1, Kulbang.

The deceased have been identified as 9-year-old Namuna Chepang, 11-year-old Sanjay Chepang, and 13-year-old Manita Chepang.

All three were siblings from the same family.

According to Lok Bahadur Magar, Principal of Rastriya Secondary School, Hattibang, Namuna died at home on May 15, while Sanjay passed away during treatment on Saturday night.

The incident occurred after a family of five, including Shyambahadur Chepang’s household, consumed wild mushrooms collected from a nearby forest on May 12.

Soon after eating, all family members fell ill, and the critically affected children were admitted to Bharatpur Hospital.

The victims were students of different grades—Namuna in Grade 2, Sanjay in Grade 3, and Manita in Grade 5.

Their parents survived the incident.
