The Cliff Bridge opens free for Baglung residents amid landslide disruptions
The decision comes after continuous heavy rainfall triggered landslides in several parts of Baglung, blocking major roads and disrupting transportation.
KATHMANDU: The iconic “The Cliff” bridge, built over the Kaligandaki River connecting Kushma in Parbat and Balewa in Baglung, has been opened free of cost for Baglung Municipality residents for one month.
Residents can use the bridge by presenting their identification card.
The decision comes after continuous heavy rainfall triggered landslides in several parts of Baglung, blocking major roads and disrupting transportation.
Announcing the initiative, The Cliff Chairman Raju Karki said the move aims to ease local mobility during the crisis. “Since road blockages have severely affected daily life, this facility will allow people to move safely and conveniently,” he stated.
The 520-meter-long and 228-meter-high suspension bridge has long served as a vital link for transporting agricultural products from Baglung to Kushma market, while also supporting students, employees, and locals in their everyday commute.
For regular users, a monthly pass system is also available.
Beyond connecting Kushma and Balewa, the bridge has become an economic, social, and cultural lifeline for the wider region. Locals believe the temporary free access will provide significant relief during this disaster period.
