‘The Blue Light’ set for nationwide release on Jan 30
The director says the film is not meant to be a one-time watch that audiences quickly forget, but a deeply immersive cinematic experience.
KATHMANDU: Nepali film The Blue Light, directed by Baliram Chauhan, is set to hit cinemas across the country from Magh 16 (Jan 30), generating strong curiosity even before its release.
The director says the film is not meant to be a one-time watch that audiences quickly forget, but a deeply immersive cinematic experience.
According to Chauhan, The Blue Light explores the complexities of the human mind, loneliness, and the fine line between reality and illusion.

Following the release of its trailer, many viewers speculated that the film belongs to the horror genre.
However, Chauhan has clarified that this is not the case. “Our film is not a horror movie,” he said. “It is a psychological drama-thriller. That said, some scenes will certainly evoke a sense of fear.”
At a time when the Nepali film industry is witnessing a rapid influx—and exit—of new directors, Chauhan positions himself differently. “I haven’t entered cinema to become an overnight hit or to disappear just as quickly,” he said. “I’m here for a long journey. My destination and contribution will be different from others.”
The film stars Benisha Hamal and Arpan Thapa in lead roles, with the story primarily revolving around their characters.
Chauhan claims that despite a strong ensemble cast, there were no conflicts over roles, and every actor found something new and challenging in their character.
“We’ve tried to present themes of love, betrayal, and revenge in a fresh style,” Chauhan explained. “The emotions and inner conflicts of the characters are highly sensitive, offering audiences a unique cinematic experience.”
As Nepali films have recently struggled to meet audience expectations, the makers of The Blue Light remain confident that this film will win viewers’ hearts.

Produced in the psychological thriller genre, The Blue Light features Benisha Hamal, Arpan Thapa, Ayushman Desraj Joshi, Srishti Shrestha, Mahesh Tripathi, and Surakshya Itani in major roles. Child actors Grisma Katuwal and Sahara Sharma also appear in the film.
Presented by Skyfall Pictures, the film has Bholanath Katuwal and Raman Grey as co-producers. Cinematographer Narendra Mainali and actress Benisha Hamal serve as executive producers.
The film is shot by Narendra Mainali, with Akash Ukheda as chief assistant director. Relija Shrestha is the production designer, while Dilip Pant worked as production controller.
The Blue Light marks Baliram Chauhan’s debut as a director.
