KATHMANDU: Kathmandu’s iconic tourist hub Thamel is set to host a vibrant “Thamel Street Festival” on the occasion of Nepali New Year 2083, aiming to promote the celebration at an international level.
Organized by the Thamel Tourism Development Council, the festival will take place today along Tridevi Marg in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 26, bringing together food, culture, and local commerce in a festive street setting.
Council Vice-Chair Sahadev Dhungana (Bimal) said the event is designed to showcase the Nepali New Year on an international platform and enhance cultural visibility. He noted that the street festival will feature food stalls, product exhibitions, and traditional cultural performances.
According to the organizers, 32 stalls will be set up along Tridevi Marg to promote local cuisine and sell various goods. The festival will also include live cultural performances starting from 6:00 PM, welcoming the New Year with celebrations that will continue until 12:30 AM.
With around 80 percent of foreign tourists visiting Nepal reportedly exploring Thamel, the council expects a strong turnout of both domestic and international visitors, making the event a key attraction in Kathmandu’s New Year festivities.
