Teachers’ Federation condemns Education Bill report
In a statement issued on Monday, the federation denounced the report as a betrayal of past agreements and the essence of their protest movement.
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the parliamentary subcommittee’s report on the School Education Bill, calling the government’s actions irresponsible and untrustworthy.
In a statement issued on Monday, the federation denounced the report as a betrayal of past agreements and the essence of their protest movement.
According to the federation, the subcommittee under the Education Committee not only failed to address key concerns of the teacher’s movement but also took a regressive stance compared to the proposed bill itself. “The state is blatantly dishonoring our struggle and past agreements,” the statement reads.
A major point of contention is the report’s omission of the agreed quota for internal competition in the adjustment process of teachers under various categories—relief quotas, temporary or contract-based, former community school teachers, learning grants, technical streams, and special education sectors.
The federation further alleged that the report has broken the government’s commitment to pass the School Education Bill by Asar 15.
“Disregarding past agreements and protests, this report has only fueled outrage among Nepal’s teaching and administrative community,” the statement adds.
The federation warned that the state’s continued irresponsibility is reigniting the grounds for fresh protests. It concluded with a strong message: “If past agreements are not implemented, the upcoming movement will be even broader and decisive.”
