Tashi urges RSP to remove his name
The CEO of Fourteen Peaks Expedition clarified that he has no interest in partisan politics and prefers to serve the nation outside the political arena.
KATHMANDU: Renowned mountaineer Tashi Lakpa Sherpa has requested the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to withdraw his name from the proportional representation candidate list submitted to the Election Commission.
The CEO of Fourteen Peaks Expedition clarified that he has no interest in partisan politics and prefers to serve the nation outside the political arena.
Sharing his decision on social media, Tashi expressed gratitude to the party for nominating him but emphasized his commitment to contributing to the country through his work and profession.
He also extended best wishes to all political parties and candidates ahead of the upcoming elections.
Interestingly, Tashi is the elder brother of famed mountaineer Mingma Sherpa, who recently joined the RSP.
While congratulating his brother’s political journey, Tashi voiced his disagreement with being included in the party list.
The RSP’s proportional representation list has faced criticism both within and outside the party for nepotism and favoritism.
Party president Rabi Lamichhane has indicated that corrections will be made to the list, a context in which Tashi Lakpa’s withdrawal has drawn attention.
