KATHMANDU: Sunrisers Hyderabad made a victorious start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with a commanding 44-run win over Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium today.

Chasing a daunting target of 287 runs, Rajasthan Royals managed to score 242 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

Despite a valiant effort from Dhruv Jurel and Sanju Samson, who both scored half-centuries, Rajasthan fell short.

Jurel top-scored for Rajasthan with an impressive 70 runs off 35 balls, including 5 fours and 6 sixes. Samson also contributed with a knock of 66 runs off 37 balls, striking 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Other notable contributions came from Shimron Hetmyer, who made 42, and Shubham Dubey, who added 34 runs. Nitish Rana scored 11 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to deliver.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Simranjeet Singh and Harshal Patel were the standout bowlers, each taking 2 wickets. Mohammad Shami and Adil Rashid claimed 1 wicket apiece, as they restricted Rajasthan’s chase effectively.

Earlier in the day, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first, allowing Hyderabad to set a challenging target. Ishan Kishan’s explosive century guided Hyderabad to a total of 286 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

Kishan remained unbeaten on 106 runs off 45 balls, smashing 11 fours and 6 sixes. His explosive century was completed in just 45 balls, making it one of the fastest in IPL history. Opening partner Travis Head also contributed significantly, scoring 67 runs off 31 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes.

Other notable contributions for Hyderabad came from Abhishek Sharma (24), Nitish Kumar Reddy (30), and Heinrich Klaasen (34). For Rajasthan, Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, while Mahesh Tiksana claimed 2 wickets, and Sandeep Sharma took 1.

Hyderabad’s total of 286 is the second-highest in IPL history, just shy of the record 287 runs they themselves set last season.

The win marks a strong start for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they look to build on this momentum in the tournament.
