Shrishti Bhattarai slams criticism over her looks as ‘peak hypocrisy’
Bhattarai did not specify who her comments were aimed at, but suggested that criticism of her appearance reflected a narrow mindset.
KATHMANDU: Shristi Bhattarai has said she is being unfairly criticized simply for “looking beautiful,” calling the attacks an example of “the height of hypocrisy.”
In a Facebook post, the young lawmaker from Rastriya Swatantra Party said recent remarks directed at her had left her surprised, arguing that some people who remain silent on corruption issues are instead targeting her personal appearance.
“People who cannot speak up when others are corrupt are criticizing me merely for being beautiful,” Bhattarai wrote. “This is hypocrisy at its peak. Should I feel discouraged by the criticism, or should I be pleased that my beauty attracts so much attention?”
Bhattarai did not specify who her comments were aimed at, but suggested that criticism of her appearance reflected a narrow mindset.
She said she had moved “from a place of questioning to a place of answering,” urging others to broaden their perspectives if they too hope to enter public leadership.
“The situation the country has faced in recent years is exactly why the younger generation entered politics,” she wrote. “We are not a generation that stays silent, but that does not mean we speak unnecessarily either.”
Originally from Sunsari district, Bhattarai entered Parliament through the proportional representation system under the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
Before joining politics, she worked as a child specialist at the Sunsari District Court and was also active as a career counselor in Koshi Province.
