Speaker Ghimire calls for parliamentary discussion amidst recent incident

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House, Devraj Ghimire, has urged political parties to foster an environment for discussion and debate in Parliament following the recent incident in Tinkune, which he described as an attack on democracy.
He emphasized the importance of addressing this issue through parliamentary dialogue to demonstrate that the Parliament is actively functioning.
In a meeting with the Chief Whips of various political parties at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor today, Speaker Ghimire stressed the need for constructive discussions on the incident that occurred, underscoring the role of Parliament in safeguarding national interests.
Ghimire further asserted that, despite the suspension of sessions, it remains crucial to continue parliamentary activities, and that any disruption of the House is unacceptable under any circumstances.
During the meeting, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, the Chief Whip of the CPN-UML), mentioned that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal would address the House in the session scheduled for tomorrow, Chaith 18.
Bartaula also shared that the Prime Minister had engaged in telephone discussions with opposition leaders regarding the obstruction of Parliament.
According to him, the Prime Minister has called for an all-party meeting today to resolve the ongoing issue.
Meanwhile, the ruling coalition has requested the opposition parties to lift the blockade in the Parliament. However, opposition parties have maintained their stance, indicating that their position remains unchanged.
