KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is set to leave the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to join the Indian Premier League (IPL), after being signed by Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Sam Curran.

The all-rounder, who was playing for Lahore Qalandars, is expected to link up with his new team in Guwahati, although his departure may be briefly delayed due to pending paperwork related to the PSL.

Shanaka is the latest player to switch leagues mid-season.

Earlier, Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani left Islamabad United to join Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.

Rajasthan Royals are due to open their campaign against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati, which will serve as their home venue during the early phase of the tournament.

Shanaka recently led Sri Lanka at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the team exited in the Super 8 stage.

He scored 165 runs and claimed three wickets during the tournament, including an unbeaten 76 off 31 balls against Pakistan.

Despite his performances, Shanaka went unsold at the IPL mini-auction, prompting his move to the PSL.

His call-up to Rajasthan Royals comes as a late opportunity to feature in the competition.

The Royals’ coaching staff includes Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara as head coach, with Vikram Rathour serving as assistant coach.
