KATHMANDU: Okhaldhunga is reeling after another shocking murder of an elderly couple in Bhadaure of Chishankhugadhi-6. On Tuesday morning, 81-year-old Chandra Bikram Rai and his 80-year-old wife Chandra Maya Rai were found dead at their home in Bohore village. Locals discovered the bodies around 7:30 a.m., each wrapped in a quilt on the second-floor bedroom, prompting immediate police action.

Authorities suspect the couple, who ran a shop, may have been killed during a robbery. Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan KC confirmed that the crime scene was secured promptly, and additional police personnel have been deployed for investigation, including a trained dog unit.

This incident comes just a month after the December 30 killing of 60-year-old Shobhiman Thapa Magar and his wife Ratnamaya Thapa Magar in Gaurigaon, Bhadaure, which was linked to looting. Earlier, on October 12, 52-year-old Ratnakumari Katwal was killed in Siddhicharan Municipality-4. Four youths—Milan alias Sangam Rai (28), Binod Rai (30), Prakash Bhujel, and Dorje alias Ashok Bhujel (30)—were arrested in connection with the previous murders and remain under investigation.

Ward Chair Balram Katwal noted that the latest killings appear more brutal but follow a similar pattern, suggesting the possibility that the mastermind may lie outside the previously arrested group.

The recent spate of violent crimes targeting senior citizens has left the local community in fear, with residents urging authorities to swiftly apprehend those responsible and strengthen security measures. The CIB continues to monitor the investigation closely.
