KATHMANDU: Sandeep Lamichhane, the suspended captain of the Nepali Cricket National Team who has been accused of repeatedly raping a 17-year-old girl, has been out of touch since last Sunday. Even after three days, he has not arrived in Nepal.

He has not contacted the Cricket Association (CAN). Prashant Vikram Malla, Executive General Secretary of CAN, stated that he is not in contact. “He hasn’t contacted us since Sunday,” he informed Makalu Khabar, “but he might come in a few days.”

He stated on social media last Friday that he is innocent, that he is confident in Nepali laws, and that he will return to Nepal in a few days. I am innocent, and I have complete faith in Nepal’s honorable legal system. “I have decided not to play CPL and will return home in a few days,” he said.

He left there on Sunday to come to Nepal and has not yet arrived, according to CAN. Acting General Secretary Malla said, “Interpol also has the information that he left there.” But he didn’t show up. He is no longer in contact with us.

Following this, CAN suspended him from captaincy. He left for Nepal after deciding not to play in the CPL and has yet to return. A 17-year-old girl filed a complaint against her at the Gaushala Police Circle on Sept 7, alleging that she was raped repeatedly on the night of Aug 21.

Following that, he traveled to the West Indies from Kenya to play in the CPL and was expected to return to Nepal immediately.

Sandeep is expected to arrive in Nepal by Tuesday, owing to the three to four transits required to return from the Caribbean to Nepal.

According to police, if he had left on Sunday, he would have arrived in Nepal today. “We have not taken any further steps as he has stated that he will return to assist in the investigation,” said Bharat Bohara, SSP of the Kathmandu Police Complex. “He will most likely come by today.”
