Samba ruled out for 9–12 months with ACL injury
According to MRI scan reports, Samba has completely ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft in her right knee.
KATHMANDU: Nepali international striker Sabitra Bhandari ‘Samba’ of Wellington Phoenix FC has been sidelined for a lengthy period after suffering a serious knee injury in the Australian A-League Women.
According to MRI scan reports, Samba has completely ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft in her right knee.
The injury is expected to keep her out of competitive football for nine to twelve months, the club confirmed.
Samba sustained the injury during the second half of Round 11 against Brisbane Roar. While contesting for an aerial ball, she came into contact with Roar goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln, causing her right leg to twist awkwardly.
Wellington Phoenix stated that the incident involved high-intensity competition for the ball and that the injury was not entirely preventable.
The 27-year-old forward had been in impressive form this season, playing a key role in Wellington Phoenix’s attacking line. Her absence is likely to have a significant impact on the team for the remainder of the season.
In an official statement, the club wished Samba a speedy recovery, saying:
“We thank Samba for her immense contribution and wish her a smooth and successful rehabilitation.”
Nepali football fans have also taken to social media to express their support and wish her well.
Samba has previously suffered ACL injuries to both knees, making this her third major ACL setback, adding another challenging chapter to her career.
