Rupa Chaudhary demands probe into Kailali jail clash
Speaking at the House of Representatives session on Tuesday, she questioned why the administration remained mute even as inmates within the security perimeter clashed.
KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) MP Rupa Shoshi Chaudhary has accused the government of remaining deliberately silent over the violent clash that occurred at Kailali prison on Friday night.
Speaking at the House of Representatives session on Tuesday, she questioned why the administration remained mute even as inmates within the security perimeter clashed.
She warned that if the security of prisoners within the facility cannot be ensured, the general public cannot be guaranteed safety either.
MP Chaudhary urged the government to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the Kailali jail incident and to take strict action against those responsible.
“Through the Speaker, I want to urge the Home Minister to ensure an impartial investigation and take action against the culprits. Immediate guarantees of prison security and human rights must be provided,” she said.
She also demanded assurances for prison security and the protection of human rights.
The violent clash at Kailali prison on Friday night left one inmate—serving a sentence in a drug-related case—dead and 49 others injured following an attack by fellow prisoners.
