KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) claims to have conducted a “clean sweep” in all three by-election areas.

While deciding the candidates for all three constituencies on Saturday, the RSP claimed to win all three seats in the by-elections.

President Rabi Lamichhane has been given a ticket in Chitwan-2, economist Dr Swarnim Wagle in Tanahun-1, and former AIG Ramesh Kharel in Bara-2.

During the press conference, all three candidates claimed victory in their respective fields. They claim that the RSP will conduct a “clean sweep” in the three by-election districts.

President Lamichhane stated that Swarnim Wagle and Ramesh Kharel should not be considered defeated and announced that following the by-election, they will hold a press conference in Ghantaghar to celebrate winning ‘Three Brothers’ (all three). In the upcoming elections, he claims that his party will form the government with a two-thirds majority.

Lamichhane stated that thousands of capable individuals, such as Swarnim Wagle and Ramesh Kharel, will join his party and that he plans to form a majority government following the next election.

He said that the coming of experts like Wagle and Kharel to his party is a sign of light for the entire country. ‘Today’s program is just a sign that thousands of talented people have joined together. Not all. Today we are three brothers. Your arrival has given confidence to the growing generation,’ said President Lamichhane. A light has been lit. I am envisioning the day when we will form a two-thirds government. Experts like you will run the ministries.’

By-elections are being held in all the three regions of the House of Representatives on April 23.

The ruling coalition has chosen Govinda Bhattarai as its candidate in Tanahun-1, while the UML has chosen Savendra Khanal. While Nepali Congress chose Jit Narayan Shrestha for Chitwan-2, UML chose Ram Prasad Neupane.

The Janamat Party has decided to run Shiva Chandra Kushwaha in Bara-2, while the Janata Samajwadi Party’s Upendra Yadav and senior LSP leader Rajendra Mahato are also planning to run.

Both the ruling coalition and the UML have yet to choose their candidates.
