RSP Chair Lamichhane ordered to remain in custody
A single bench of Judge Narayan Prasad Sapkota rejected Lamichhane’s plea for release on a bank guarantee in connection with an ongoing cooperative fraud and organized crime case.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has been ordered to remain in custody by the Rupandehi District Court.
A single bench of Judge Narayan Prasad Sapkota rejected Lamichhane’s plea for release on a bank guarantee in connection with an ongoing cooperative fraud and organized crime case.
Lamichhane had filed an application on Shrawan 19, seeking release under Section 131(a) of the Cooperative Act by paying the claimed amount as a guarantee.
He presented a bank guarantee worth Rs 284 million, arguing that although the provision might not legally apply to him, the guarantee should secure his release on general date.
However, after Monday’s hearing, the court dismissed his request, deciding that the trial proceedings will continue with him in custody.
Lamichhane has been in judicial custody since Chaitra 22 last year.
