KATHMANDU: A composed unbeaten half-century from Sameer Rizvi guided Delhi Capitals (DC) to a six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday.

Playing in Lucknow, the hosts were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs after opting to bat first.

Abdul Samad top-scored with 36, while Delhi’s bowling attack impressed, with Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan claiming three wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav picked up two.

Chasing 142, Delhi endured a disastrous start, collapsing to 26 for 4 inside the powerplay as Lucknow’s seamers exploited early swing.

Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan kept the pressure on with disciplined bowling.

However, Rizvi turned the contest with a decisive counterattack. Partnering with Tristan Stubbs, he stitched together an unbroken 119-run stand for the fifth wicket to steer Delhi to victory.

Rizvi struck 70 not out from 47 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes, while Stubbs contributed an unbeaten 39 from 32 deliveries.

Rizvi was particularly effective against spin, shifting momentum firmly in Delhi’s favour.

The winning runs came in the 17.1 overs when Rizvi found the boundary, sealing the chase at 145 for 4.

Earlier, Delhi’s bowlers had laid the foundation for victory. Mukesh Kumar provided early breakthroughs, while Ngidi removed Nicholas Pooran, triggering a collapse in Lucknow’s middle order.

Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant promoted himself to open but was run out after a promising start, adding to his side’s troubles.

Delhi Capitals will next face Mumbai Indians on April 4, while Lucknow Super Giants are set to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5.
