KATHMANDU: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a commanding 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring Indian Premier League clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night.
Batting first, RCB produced a stunning display with the bat, posting a massive total of 240/4 in their 20 overs.
Phil Salt led the charge with a blistering 78 off just 36 balls, smashing six sixes and six fours. He was well supported by Virat Kohli, who scored a steady 50 from 38 deliveries, as the pair stitched together a superb 120-run opening partnership.
Middle-order batter Rajat Patidar accelerated the innings further with an explosive 53 off 20 balls, hitting five sixes and four boundaries. Tim David added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 34, ensuring RCB crossed the 240 mark.
For Mumbai, Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner, and Shardul Thakur picked up one wicket each.
Chasing a daunting target of 241, Mumbai Indians got off to a promising start but failed to maintain the required momentum. They finished on 222/5 in their 20 overs. Sherfane Rutherford played a remarkable knock, remaining unbeaten on 71 from 31 balls, including nine sixes.
Hardik Pandya contributed 40 off 22 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav made 33 and Ryan Rickelton added 37. Veteran opener Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt on 19, which proved to be a setback in the chase.
RCB’s bowlers, particularly the spinners, played a crucial role in restricting Mumbai. Suyash Sharma claimed two key wickets, while Krunal Pandya delivered a tight spell to keep the opposition under pressure.
