Raid in Birgunj turns violent, four arrested

KATHMANDU: Birgunj police have arrested four individuals who attacked armed police personnel during a raid on an illegal warehouse in Adarshanagar.
The incident occurred on Monday when the Birgunj Customs Office, alongside the Armed Police Force (APF), conducted a joint operation targeting a warehouse suspected of storing smuggled goods.
During the raid, local traders allegedly resisted, resulting in injuries to three APF personnel and damage to two APF vehicles.
Haribahadur Basnet, spokesperson of Parsa Police, confirmed that the four suspects were taken into custody by Monday night.
“Investigation is ongoing using CCTV footage to identify all involved. Names of the suspects will be released once the probe is complete,” he said.
The clash erupted while authorities were recovering clothes worth approximately Rs 1.25 million from the warehouse, reportedly owned by Madan Prasad Gupta, which was being used illegally to store smuggled goods.
