Prasai reveals assassination plot in 1981 Tinkune incident
During a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday, Prasai claimed that there had been a plan to "encounter" him that day.
KATHMANDU: Medical professional Durga Prasai has, for the first time, spoken publicly about the incident that took place on Chaitra 15, 1981 in Tinkune, Kathmandu.
During a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday, Prasai claimed that there had been a plan to “encounter” him that day.
“There was an order to encounter me,” he said. “If Madan Bhandari had survived in this country, there would have been no opportunity for others. That is why even Madan Bhandari was killed.”
Prasai, who was released from Dillibazar prison just two weeks ago, also revealed that he drove a car for the first time in ten years on that day. “I took the car and went to the police,” he said. “Even if there was a plan to kill me, I thought only one or two people would know, so I had to enter the police station itself.”
At the police office, he said a DSP advised him to leave after the program concluded. Later, on stage, Prasai urged both the police and his supporters to remain calm. “I told everyone on the stage not to use tear gas, and I asked the public not to throw stones,” he recalled.
According to Prasai, a civil police officer informed him that a plan to assassinate him was underway. “After that, I left the valley,” he said. “When curfew was imposed, I was no longer in Kathmandu.”
