KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police Headquarters has instructed police in charge of Kathmandu during the Gen Z protests on Sept 8–9 not to leave the Kathmandu Valley.

The directive, sent to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office at Ranipokhari, follows a letter from the commission investigating the crackdown and subsequent arson incidents during the protests.

The commission may summon officers deployed in the most affected areas at any time, prompting the police to restrict their travel outside the valley.

The fact-finding commission began its interrogations on Sunday, starting with questioning jailers at Nakkhu Prison.

The Gen Z protests on Sept 8 resulted in the deaths of 22 people, followed by nationwide demonstrations and arson attacks in the subsequent days.
