KATHMANDU: The Pokhara Urban Development Committee has issued a public notice instructing all shop owners and occupants within the Pokhara Bus Park area to remove their structures within 15 days, as part of preparations to construct a modern bus terminal.

The directive covers structures built from Pokhara House to Seti Bridge, south of Prithvi Highway, north of the airport area, and along the Seti River corridor.

The committee has urged business operators to cooperate and vacate the encroached land to facilitate the construction process.

The notice warns that if the structures are not removed within the given deadline, the committee will carry out the demolition itself and recover all associated costs from the concerned individuals or organizations.

Landowners holding legal titles within the Bus Park area have also been instructed to submit relevant documents within seven days, including citizenship certificates, copies of land ownership certificates, receipts of current fiscal year property or land tax payments, and other supporting legal papers.

Earlier, the Pokhara Metropolitan City had also issued a 35-day eviction notice on April 17, which expired on Saturday, prompting the Urban Development Committee to issue the latest enforcement order.

The Bus Park area, located in Prithvi Chowk of Ward No. 9 in Pokhara Metropolitan City, has long been affected by encroachment.

The land was originally acquired around 1974–75 for the construction of a modern bus park, spanning approximately 205 ropani.

However, due to gradual encroachment, only about 60 ropani now remains.

Authorities estimate that nearly 500 families, including landless Dalits, squatters, and informal settlers, are currently residing in makeshift structures within the Bus Park premises.

The metropolitan office has stated that genuine landless families will be provided appropriate resettlement arrangements, while encroached land will be cleared to proceed with the long-delayed modern bus park project.
