PM wished us after we spoke against trafficking: RSP
RSP lawmakers clarified that the gesture symbolized their protest against human trafficking.
KATHMANDU: Members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) attended Parliament on Thursday wearing black attire and blue ribbons, drawing the attention of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who inquired about the unusual dress.
RSP lawmakers clarified that the gesture symbolized their protest against human trafficking.
According to MP Manish Jha, RSP Deputy Leader Biraj Bhakta Shrestha informed the Prime Minister that the blue ribbon is a globally recognized symbol against human trafficking, while the black dress signified continuous protest.
Jha added, “We’ve been protesting for the past 22 days across nearly 15 parliamentary sessions. Still, we’ve received no official response from the government. This attire is a sign of that continued resistance.”
He further noted that when they encountered the Prime Minister in Parliament, he asked about their outfit, and after being informed of the cause, he extended his best wishes.
The protest attire highlights growing frustration within the RSP over what they describe as the government’s apathy toward the ongoing human trafficking crisis.
