PM Oli urges deeper understanding of Haritalika Teej beyond festivities
Over time, he noted, the custom evolved into a women-centric practice, and modern society has seen new perspectives emerge.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged people to recognize the profound cultural and spiritual significance of the Haritalika Teej festival, rather than viewing it merely as a celebration of songs and dances.
In his Teej greetings, PM Oli emphasized that the festival is deeply connected to fasting, self-discipline, and restraint. “Teej is often understood only as a festival of songs and dances, but its essence lies in fasting, self-control, and personal discipline,” he said.
Highlighting the historical and familial importance of Teej, the Prime Minister recalled that, traditionally, both husband and wife would observe fasts together while worshipping the Saptarishi.
Over time, he noted, the custom evolved into a women-centric practice, and modern society has seen new perspectives emerge.
PM Oli also discussed the scientific benefits of fasting, noting that recent research confirms its positive effects on health.
He described Teej as a festival promoting spiritual purity and strengthening marital life.
Concluding his message, the Prime Minister stated, “Haritalika Teej, rooted in our joint family culture, brings warmth to homes, joy to marital life, and harmony to society. I extend my heartfelt Teej greetings to all sisters!”
