KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has declared that he is ready to face the consequences or pay any penalty for his public statements if they are proven false.

Speaking at the book launch event titled “Democracy and Public Opinion: Nepal’s Electoral History” held at Baluwatar on Sunday, PM Oli asserted that all his remarks are based on facts. “If anything I’ve said turns out to be untrue, I am ready to pay immediately,” he stated.

“The things I’ve said are printed on the notes issued by Nepal Rastra Bank. If anyone demands payment, the stated amount will be settled right away—even for my words, if proven wrong,” he added.

Calling for a redefinition of the role of government, PM Oli emphasized that the government should be a manager and servant—not a ruler. “The definition of government must change. A government is not a ruler; it is a manager and a servant,” he said.

He highlighted that delivering good governance and development is the primary responsibility of the government. O

nly a government committed to its duties can earn the people’s trust, he argued.

“A responsible government must not only be accountable to the people but also guided by its duties,” Oli said.

Accepting the public’s right to criticize, he humorously added, “Those who are angry are free to hurl abuses. Do it. Use the dictionary if needed—it makes no difference to me.”
