KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that after the Federal Civil Service Act is enacted, the issues of reservation for communities such as Tharu and Muslims will be addressed.

During the ‘Prime Minister’s Question Hour’ in the House of Representatives on Thursday, MP Binakumari Thanait raised concerns about the lack of reservation for the Tharu community as a distinct group and the delay in enacting the Civil Service Act.

In response, Prime Minister Oli explained that once the Federal Civil Service Bill, 2080 (2023), which is currently being discussed in detail in the Parliament’s State Affairs Committee, is passed and enacted, issues like reservation for Tharu, Muslims, and other communities will be addressed.

He added that provisions have already been made in the Civil Service Act to offer reservation opportunities to the Tharu community by recognizing them as an indigenous group.

The Prime Minister also assured that the government has been following an inclusive approach when appointing individuals to various public positions after the formation of the new Cabinet.
