KATHMANDU: The play “Sirumaarani” has begun staging at Mandala Theatre, Thapagaun, from Bhadra 11.
Originally written 23 years ago by renowned playwright Sarubhakta, the play was the debut performance of Mandala co-founder and celebrated actor Dayahang Rai.
This time, Mandala’s own students Anup Neupane and Sumitra Pehim have revived the production, bringing it back to the Mandala stage.
“Sirumaarani” portrays the struggle of a woman to safeguard her femininity, presented in a powerful theatrical style.
The drama sheds light on society’s darker sides—waiting passively for fate, being lost in the arrogance of power—while ultimately delivering the message that one must embrace life and keep moving forward.
The play features performances by Mandala’s 17th batch students, including Jyotsna Ghimire, Sameer Bhattarai, Sayujya Bhandari, Sejal Gautam, and Sahishma Khadka, among others.
The staging runs every evening at 5:15 PM, except Mondays, with an additional matinee show every Saturday at 1:15 PM.
