Patan High Court orders release of Durga Prasai on bail

KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail in two separate cases.
A joint bench of Justices Sudarshan Bhatta and Munendra Prasad Awasthi issued the order.
Prasai has been granted release on a bail of Rs 2.5 million in a banking offense case and Rs 350,000 in a case related to a public disturbance incident in Tinkune, which falls under crimes against the state.
The court has also ordered the release on bail of four others who were arrested in connection with the Tinkune incident.
However, seven individuals still remain in custody.
Among them, Prasai and three others had filed an appeal at the Patan High Court, while the remaining three have not appealed yet.
Earlier, following a clash in Tinkune, Prasai and several of his supporters were taken into police custody and charged with multiple offenses.
With the court’s latest order, the way is now clear for Prasai and others to be released upon posting the required bail amounts.
