‘Paran’ earns nearly Rs 17 crore; other Nepali films also perform strongly

According to data released by the Box Office at a Glance under the Film Development Board, Paran has earned nearly Rs 17 crore as of Mangsir 20.

KATHMANDU: Nepali cinema is experiencing a significant resurgence, with recent releases performing well at the box office.

Following last year’s historic success of Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi, the local film industry has gained momentum, moving from a period where raising investment was challenging to a phase of growing audience interest.

According to data released by the Box Office at a Glance under the Film Development Board, Paran has earned nearly Rs 17 crore as of Mangsir 20.

Released on Kartik 14, the family drama directed by Deepak Prasad Acharya has grossed Rs 16,97,93,354 domestically, with 5,98,309 tickets sold.

Renowned actors such as Neer Shah and Madan Krishna Shrestha feature in the film alongside Keki Adhikari, Mahesh Tripathi, Pooja Chand, and Anjana Baraili.

Director Acharya said, “Audiences have recommended watching Paran themselves. Many viewers connected deeply with the father-son story; it reflects our society.”

Other recent hits include Jerry on Top, which has sold 3,91,992 tickets and earned Rs 12,26,68,240 since its release on Ashoj 31.

Directed by Suyog Gurung, the film starring Anmol KC, Anchal Sharma, Jasita Gurung, Bhuwan KC, Kedar Ghimire, and Usha Khadgi, combines a love story with an Everest expedition backdrop.

Similarly, Jaari 2: Song of Chyabrung, directed by poet Upendra Subba, has sold 2,07,714 tickets and earned Rs 6,23,69,200.

Released on Kartik 21, the film portrays the Jaari tradition of the Limbu community, featuring actors Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Reecha Sharma, Prem Subba, and Puskar Gurung.

The biopic Manbina Ko Dhan, based on child singer Ashok Darji’s life, has grossed Rs 3,79,02,879 with 1,45,059 tickets sold since its release on Kartik 21.

Directed by Tank Budhathoki, the film stars Ashok Darji, Neeta Dhungana, Saroj Khanal, and AR Budhathoki.

Meanwhile, Harsha, released on Mangsir 12, has earned Rs 28,02,346 with 8,436 tickets sold.

Directed by Ekta Paudel, the film features Khagendra Lamichhane, Barsha Raut, Simon Wadi, Neer Shah, Santosh Panta., Sharmila Malla, Maotse Gurung, and Bishal Pahari.

These figures indicate a strong revival of Nepali cinema, fueled by audience engagement and diverse storytelling.
