Padmakanya College canteen, hostel dining hall found unsanitary

KATHMANDU: Food hygiene at Padmakanya College’s canteen and hostel dining hall has been found to be substandard.

During a joint inspection by Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, food technologist Anil Basnet reported that basic hygiene practices were weak at these facilities.

The college is located in Ward No. 28, Bagbazar, Kathmandu. During the inspection, 700 grams of expired chowmein were destroyed from the Chhmena Hall.

The hostel dining hall for the college’s female students also showed poor cleanliness.

Food items were found stored haphazardly in the store room. The kitchen’s exhaust fan was broken, and the cooking area was covered with black grime.

No measures for pest control were observed.

The dining hall is operated by P.K. Chamena Hall & Restaurant.
