KATHMANDU: Okhaldhunga police have arrested four members of an organized gang suspected of carrying out a series of murders and robberies in a short span, revealing a worrying pattern of rural crime.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, in coordination with provincial and district police, conducted a joint operation leading to the arrests.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the gang targeted single women in rural areas and couples running small businesses, aiming to steal cash and gold.
Similarities in crime scenes, weapons used, and modus operandi prompted authorities to treat the incidents as linked.
Those arrested include 28-year-old Milan “Sangam” Rai of Chishankhugadhi–3 Diyale, 30-year-old Binod Rai of Chishankhugadhi–4 Ratmata, 30-year-old Prakash Bhujel, and 30-year-old Dorje “Ashok” Bhujel of Chishankhugadhi–8 Mamkha.
Police have extended the investigation timeline through the courts and are pursuing cases related to murder, robbery, and illegal possession of weapons.
