NTA directs ISPs to block illegal FIFA World Cup 2026 streaming in Nepal
The Authority also released a list of 35 websites and platforms suspected of facilitating illegal broadcasts.
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has directed all mobile and internet service providers to prevent illegal broadcasting and streaming of FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Nepal.
Issuing a notice on Thursday, the Authority’s Licensing Compliance Monitoring Division stated that official broadcasting rights for Nepal have been secured by Himalayan Sports under Himalayan Television Network and DGo Broadcasting Consortium under DishHome Digital Pvt. Ltd.
The NTA expressed concern over increasing attempts to stream matches through pirated websites and unauthorized mobile applications, many of which offer free access to content without permission.
In its notice, the regulator instructed service providers to take necessary technical measures and strengthen monitoring systems to block unauthorized streaming platforms.
The Authority also released a list of 35 websites and platforms suspected of facilitating illegal broadcasts.
According to the official arrangement, FIFA World Cup 2026 matches will be broadcast in Nepal through Himalayan Sports Channel on television, while digital streaming will be available via the DGo app.
FIFA has granted exclusive broadcasting rights for Nepal, meaning foreign television channels and streaming platforms will not be allowed to distribute matches within the country.
Nepali viewers will be able to watch all 104 matches by subscribing to official packages.
The TV package has been set at Rs 999 (including tax), while the mobile-only package costs Rs 549. A combined package for both mobile and laptop viewing is also priced at Rs 999.
To subscribe, users can scan a QR code displayed on television via mobile wallet apps or subscribe through eSewa and Khalti by selecting their service provider and entering their user ID.
Mobile viewers can also activate subscriptions through the DGo app or directly via the FIFA World Cup icon in payment apps.
The Authority emphasized that the TV subscription requires an active basic digital TV connection; otherwise, the World Cup package alone will not function.
Once activated, the subscription will be permanently linked to a single device and mobile number, and cannot be transferred.
The DGo platform also offers live coverage of all matches in both Nepali and English commentary at full HD (1080p) quality.
Officials have urged viewers to use only authorized platforms to ensure uninterrupted and legal access to the tournament.
