KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a new Rs 100 banknote, which enters circulation starting today.

The note bears the signature of outgoing Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari.

The new series covers serial numbers from 20 Ka 000001 to 40 Gha 999999, the central bank said.

The note carries the guarantee: “The Nepalese government promises to pay the bearer on demand the sum of one hundred rupees from Nepal Rastra Bank.”

Design features include a portrait of Mount Everest on the left, a rhododendron watermark on the right, a map highlighting Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh in the center, and an image of the Ashoka Pillar.

For the visually impaired, a tactile black dot is included for easy identification.

The note also has a 2 mm wide color-shifting security thread, appearing red when viewed straight and green when tilted.

The year B.S. 2081 is printed in Nepali on the note.

Previously, Nepal Rastra Bank had announced the release of the Rs 100 note on Asoj 7, 2076 B.S., covering serial numbers from O 18 000001 to Ka 37 999999.

However, only the range from O 18 000001 to 19 Ka 19 034500 was circulated at that time, the central bank noted.
