KATHMANDU: Nomination filing for the Special General Convention of the Nepali Congress has officially begun at Bhrikutimandap, even as party president Sher Bahadur Deuba engages in talks with General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma at his residence in Maharajgunj.
The discussions aim to break the communication deadlock within the party.

President Deuba has taken the initiative to find a middle path amid the complex situation, considering the demands put forward by the Special Convention faction and the ongoing election process.

Earlier on Monday, leaders including Head of the Publicity Department, Min Bishwakarma, met Deuba and recommended direct dialogue with the General Secretaries.

Initially hesitant, Deuba and Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka have now shown willingness to be flexible with the General Secretaries to prevent potential party divisions or deepening crises.

Today’s meeting is expected to determine whether the gap between the party’s official line and the dissatisfied faction can be bridged.
While top leaders are engaged in negotiations in Budhanilkantha, the electoral process for the Special General Convention continues unabated at Bhrikutimandap.

According to the schedule set by the Election Committee, nomination filing for candidates has already commenced.
Senior Advocate Sitaram KC, coordinator of the Election Committee, stated that a deadline has been set for nominations until the morning.

Following the party’s existing constitution, elections will be held for one president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries, eight deputy general secretaries, and 121 central committee members.
Out of a total of 4,743 delegates for the 14th General Convention, 4,635 currently registered delegates are eligible to participate in the election process.
