NMC honored as top taxpayer in health & education sector

KATHMANDU: On the occasion of National Tax Day 2082, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) recognized institutions with outstanding tax contributions, awarding Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital Limited in Biratnagar as the top taxpayer in the health and education sector.

The college is led by popular Nepali Congress youth leader Dr. Sunil Sharma.

The honor was given for the highest tax contribution in the fiscal year 2080/081, acknowledging Nobel’s role in strengthening the state’s revenue system.

The department highlighted that Nobel Medical College, which has long been active in health and education, continues to lead the list of top taxpayers this year.

The college is currently managed by Dr. Sharma’s daughter, Soina Sharma.

The IRD also announced top taxpayers in other categories:

  • Institutional Taxpayer (Income Tax): Nepal Telecommunications Authority
  • Individual Taxpayer: Raj Bahadur Shah
  • Sole Proprietorship: Third Eye International
  • Manufacturing: Dabur Nepal
  • IT Services Export: Orix Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
  • Agriculture & Livestock Industry: Poshak Breeder Farm Pvt. Ltd.
  • Banking & Financial Services: Nepal Investment Mega Bank
  • Tourism: Solti Hotel Limited
  • Goods Trading: Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket & Departmental Store Pvt. Ltd.

Other notable awardees include BRIDS & Clearing Limited (annual turnover 50–100 crore), Bhote Koshi Power Company Pvt. Ltd. (cottage industry), IME Limited (remittance and money transfer), and Unilever Nepal Limited (export-oriented industry).

The IRD’s recognition of Nobel Medical College underscores the critical role private healthcare institutions play in supporting the nation’s tax structure, highlighting their continued commitment to the country’s economic development.
