KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has reiterated that holding the House of Representatives elections on March 5 is non-negotiable.

Speaking in Saneepa on Tuesday while inspecting the Nepali Congress party office and engaging in political dialogue on behalf of the government’s negotiation committee, Kharel emphasized that the government, formed after the Gen Z-led movement, is mandated to hold elections as per the public mandate.

“Following the Gen Z movement, we received a mandate to ensure elections on March 5. This government is also tasked with promoting good governance and controlling corruption. We have held multiple talks and consultations with political parties to ensure a conducive environment for the elections,” he said.

Kharel added that the three-member government negotiation team, formed to facilitate political dialogue, has been engaging political parties to discuss electoral arrangements and inspect damages arising during the movement.

Meanwhile, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha said political parties must also consider solutions under the current circumstances. “Given the current challenging situation, elections are the only viable option, and delaying them further would be inappropriate for political stability,” Sinha added.

He also assured that the government is ready to provide necessary support to political parties for the smooth conduct of elections.

The political dialogue committee, formed by the government, is chaired by Minister Sinha, with Minister Kharel and Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s chief advisor Ajaybhadra Khanal as members.
