KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended further investigation into film director Nischal Basnet and several social media personalities, including operators of the “Routine of Nepal Banda” Facebook page and multiple YouTubers, over alleged involvement in inciting the Gen Z movement protests.
According to the commission, the recommendation is based on a report prepared by a probe committee coordinated by NHRC member Lily Thapa.
The panel has suggested that authorities conduct a detailed investigation into their roles in connection with reported human rights violations during the protests.
Those recommended for investigation include social media operator Victor Paudel, YouTubers Bhagya Neupane, Tank Dahal, Ankit Mall, Umesh Bohora, Shiva Yadav, Binod Deuba, Saru Sunuwar, Bhim Upadhyay, and Ravi Kiran Hamal, among others.
The commission concluded that these individuals appeared to have played roles in amplifying or provoking the protests through social media and other platforms, making further inquiry necessary.
