NHRC calls for probe into ‘TOB’
The report was submitted to the government for implementation on Wednesday.
KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended that the government conduct a detailed investigation into the role of the ‘Tibetan Origin Blood’ (TOB) group over allegations of inciting protesters during the Gen Z movement demonstrations.
In a report on human rights violations during the protests held on Bhadra 23 and 24, the commission said incidents of violence escalated after a group allegedly influenced and provoked demonstrators.
The report was submitted to the government for implementation on Wednesday.
According to the NHRC, while a peaceful gathering had been organized at Maitighar Mandala, participants were reportedly taken toward the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwor, where they were allegedly encouraged to engage in confrontational and violent behavior against security forces deployed there.
The commission stated that the role of the TOB group and other individuals should be investigated in detail, and if found guilty, legal action should be taken under existing laws.
The report also emphasizes accountability for those responsible for escalating tensions and turning a peaceful demonstration into a violent incident.
