Neupane nominated unopposed as State Affairs Committee Chair
Neupane’s nomination was proposed by Nepali Congress MP Ramhari Khatiwada and seconded by UML MP Krishn Gopal Shrestha.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Ishwari Devi Neupane has been nominated unopposed for the vacant chairperson position of the Parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.
Neupane’s nomination was proposed by Nepali Congress MP Ramhari Khatiwada and seconded by UML MP Krishn Gopal Shrestha.
She is also a member of the committee.
The nomination was formally submitted at 3:00 PM today, within the scheduled window from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Senior party officials, including Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyamkumar Ghimire and UML Chief Whip Maheshkumar Bartaula, accompanied her for the nomination process.
In the committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow, she will be declared elected unopposed, as only one nomination has been filed.
Neupane began her political journey with the Nepal Student Union and currently serves as a central committee member of Nepali Congress. She has previously been a member of both Constituent Assemblies and has served as parliamentary party whip.
She also held the position of head of the party’s women’s department, gaining extensive leadership experience.
Earlier today, Neupane resigned from her post as chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee to contest this position.
The party had decided to nominate her in its executive meeting held today.
The chairperson’s position became vacant after MP Ramhari Khatiwada resigned.
Speaking briefly to journalists after her nomination, Neupane emphasized her commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities of the committee, stating, “Where there are challenges, there are equal opportunities. I will ensure a conducive environment to carry out my duties effectively, with full cooperation and facilitation from all members.”
