NEPSE ends Monday with marginal gain
The index climbed 5.01 points, or 0.17%, to settle at 2,936.56.
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rose slightly on Monday, recovering from a day of early losses to close with a modest gain.
The index climbed 5.01 points, or 0.17%, to settle at 2,936.56.
Despite the overall rise in NEPSE, the Sensitive Index fell by 0.28 points, closing at 505.02, down 0.05% from the previous session.
Meanwhile, the Float Index gained 0.13%, and the Sensitive Float Index edged up 0.01%.
Trading activity slowed compared with Sunday, with 38.07 million shares of 342 companies exchanged over 156,381 transactions.
The total turnover reached Rs 15.786 billion, down from Rs 23.597 billion the previous day.
Share prices of 102 companies increased, while 154 companies saw declines.
Eight companies’ share prices remained unchanged.
Out of 13 sectoral indices, seven closed higher and six lower.
The Commercial Bank and Development Bank indices fell 0.27% and 0.50% respectively, while the Finance index rose 0.20%.
The Hotels and Tourism sector dropped 0.86%, in contrast to Hydropower and Investment, which gained 0.96% and 0.72%.
Other notable movements included life insurance, down 0.48%, while manufacturing and processing rose 1.53%, microfinance increased 0.43%, and mutual funds gained 0.88%.
Non-life insurance dipped 0.04%, the trading group fell 0.59%, and the Others index rose 0.01%.
Four companies hit the positive circuit breaker, earning investors a 10% return.
These included Salpa Bikas Bank, Reliance Spinning Mills, Solu Hydropower Limited, and Bhujung Hydropower Limited. Conversely, investors in Sunrise First Mutual Fund saw losses of 3.71%.
Kumari Bank led trading in both turnover and volume.
The bank recorded Rs 672.3 million in turnover from 2,768,109 shares traded.
Its share price closed at Rs 246, down from a turnover of Rs 859.61 million on Sunday.
