Nepali short film Rihanna to premiere at BIFF

KATHMANDU: Nepali short film Rihanna has been officially selected for its world premiere at the 30th edition of the world-renowned Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), one of Asia’s most prestigious cinematic platforms.

This year, Rihanna stands as the only Nepali representation at the festival.

According to the festival’s announcement, the film will have its special screenings on Ashoj 5–6.

Out of 3,059 submissions received this year, Rihanna secured a place among the Top 10 selections, marking a remarkable achievement for Nepali cinema.

Producer Kedar Bhusal expressed pride over the milestone, stating: “We have been working with the vision of taking Nepal’s diverse stories to global audiences through unique storytelling. The selection of Rihana at Busan has given me even greater encouragement and inspiration.”

The film is a production of A Dumsi Pictures, in collaboration with Miraj Motion Pictures, Underground Talkies, and Picture Frame. It is written and directed by Suraj Paudel, featuring Prithu Bhatt and Srijana Adhikari in the lead roles.

The producers include Ujjwal Bastakoti, Avinash Bikram Shah, and Kedar Bhusal, with Roshni Adhikari serving as executive producer.

Cinematography is by Shishir Bishankhe, editing by Gaurav Kumar Mullick, and casting direction by Madan Shrestha.

The film’s sound design and mixing were handled by Dikesh Khadgi Shahi, while Ramlal Khadka contributed as production designer. Co-writing credits go to Shailesh RC (LSM).

The Busan International Film Festival is globally recognized as a leading platform, particularly for Asian cinema, and is often referred to as the “Cannes of Asia” for its role in promoting new filmmakers and innovative storytelling.
