Nepal women crash out of T20 WC Qualifier after 72-run loss to Scotland (photos)

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s women’s cricket team has been eliminated from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier after suffering a 72-run defeat to Scotland at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Monday.

Chasing a target of 141 runs, Nepal managed only 68 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 13.5 overs.

Captain Indu Barma, who had retired hurt after scoring 5 runs earlier, was unable to return to the crease during the chase.

This defeat leaves Nepal with just one win from four matches in Group B.

Netherlands and Scotland, both on 6 points, along with Thailand on 4 points, have advanced to the Super Six stage. Zimbabwe lost all four of their group matches.

For Nepal, the batting contributions were: Samjhana Khadka 7, Bindu Rawal 14, Puja Mahto 2, Kavita Joshi 6, Sita Ranamagar 2, Rubina Chhetri 10, Kavita Kunwar 0, Riya Sharma 1, and Manisha Upadhyaya 2. Roma Thapa scored 11 runs off 11 balls, including one four and one six.

Scotland’s Abtaha Maksud claimed 3 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs, while Kathrin Bryce took 2 wickets for 14 runs in 2.5 overs. Rachel Slater and Olivia Bell took one wicket each.

Earlier, Nepal’s left-arm spinner Manisha Upadhyaya had produced a sensational bowling performance, restricting Scotland to 140 all out in 20 overs despite losing the toss and being sent to bat.

Upadhyaya struck early, dismissing Kathrin Fraser and Darcy Carter in the second and fourth balls of the innings, respectively, and went on to take 4 wickets for just 17 runs in her 4 overs.

Rubina Chhetri also impressed with 3 wickets for 23 runs, taking two wickets in consecutive deliveries towards the end. Sita Ranamagar, Kavita Joshi, and Riya Sharma claimed one wicket each.

From Scotland, Priyanj Chatterjee top-scored with an unbeaten 45 runs off 28 balls, hitting seven boundaries.

Lister scored 22 runs from 24 balls with four fours, while Megan McCool made 17 runs off 14 balls, including two fours.
