Nepal plans new law to raise funds for infrastructure
Speaking at a discussion in the Finance Committee on Monday regarding the bill on alternative development financing, he said the government is introducing this law to mobilize resources outside the treasury for infrastructure investment.
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has stated that the government has been unable to invest in infrastructure projects due to a lack of resources.
Speaking at a discussion in the Finance Committee on Monday regarding the bill on alternative development financing, he said the government is introducing this law to mobilize resources outside the treasury for infrastructure investment.
According to him, the law will play a crucial role in selecting projects, raising funds beyond the treasury, and implementing them. It will also encourage private sector investment in profitable projects.
Minister Paudel said, “The state is currently not in a position to invest in infrastructure. We are under significant resource pressure.
That’s why this bill aims to raise funds for revenue-generating projects from sources outside the treasury. Mobilizing alternative financing will help advance major infrastructure projects.”
He added that once the alternative financing law is enacted, it will resolve the current problem of resource scarcity in infrastructure development. The funds could be utilized for sectors such as mining studies, fertilizer factories, and IT.
