KATHMANDU: Nepal’s national men’s football team head coach Matt Ross has resigned from his position.

According to sources from the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Ross submitted his resignation letter to the ANFA General Secretary.

However, ANFA has not yet made any official announcement regarding the matter.

Ross had signed a one-year contract with ANFA on March 1 (Falgun 18) during a formal press conference. Despite the year-long agreement, he stepped down just eight months into the role.

During his tenure, Ross managed seven matches as Nepal’s head coach — securing one win, two draws, and four losses. His only victory came in his debut match, where Nepal defeated Singapore 1–0, which remains his best result.

Nepal later played goalless draws against Hong Kong and Bangladesh, drew 1–1 with Malaysia and Laos, and lost both encounters against Vietnam.

Ross was absent from the touchline in the recent match against Vietnam after receiving a two-match suspension due to two yellow cards.

Earlier, Ross had publicly stated that “a country without a domestic league cannot expect consistent football success,” hinting at the structural challenges within Nepali football.

His resignation follows a similar move by women’s team coach Patrick, who quit after a single tournament, accusing ANFA of mismanagement — a controversy that had drawn significant attention.
