KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that the Nepal Citizenship Bill is set to be passed by the House of Representatives on Ashar 14.

Speaking at the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, he emphasized the need for swift approval of the bill, urging that it should not be delayed.

He stated that the government is ready to discuss all concerns in detail and requested the committee to finalize the bill quickly.

The committee has reportedly completed discussions on the citizenship bill and plans to present it to the House for approval on Ashar 14.

Minister Lekhak also urged that, if possible, the bill to amend the Nepal Police-related law should be passed by the committee and submitted to the parliament within this month. He stressed that the police bill is a government priority.

He said, “Let’s expedite the bills. The government is ready to discuss all concerns. The committee has finalized the citizenship bill after a short discussion and, as per my information, it will be presented to the respected House of Representatives on Ashar 14. We will pass it then. Let’s conclude the citizenship issue as soon as possible. If feasible, let’s also finalize the police bill within this month.”

The committee began a theoretical discussion on the police law amendment bill today.
