Nepal advances digital health integration: Health Minister
He said that the lack of integrated data has hindered effective policymaking, but the government now expects improved decision-making through the digital health reform.
KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel addressed the United Nations Regional Ministerial Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, sharing Nepal’s ongoing efforts in the field of digital health with the global community.
In his address, Minister Paudel stated that Nepal has initiated policy-level decisions to integrate scattered citizen health data into a unified system. “We have started incorporating demographic details into the national identity card, and efforts are underway to integrate health information as well,” he said.
He said that the lack of integrated data has hindered effective policymaking, but the government now expects improved decision-making through the digital health reform.
He also noted that inter-ministerial collaboration will be further strengthened to achieve these goals.
During a meeting with Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary for the UN Asia-Pacific region, Minister Paudel highlighted the technical challenges faced by Nepal in digital transformation and called for support from international institutions.
Also speaking at the conference, Ministry Joint Secretary Dhundiraj Niroula said Nepal received encouraging responses from Asia-Pacific nations, boosting its determination to continue reforms.
He added that the ministry is actively working on introducing a national population policy, in which digital systems will play a pivotal role.
