KATHMANDU: The second day of the Nepali Congress’s second special convention continued on Tuesday at Bhrikutimandap, with closed sessions underway.

The convention has moved forward with the necessary procedures for leadership selection, including the formation of an election committee.

A five-member committee, chaired by senior advocate Sitaram KC, was announced.

The other members are Ashok Pokhrel, Gokarna Banjade, RC Bimal Paudel, and Ramchandra Gautam.

According to the rules passed on Monday, the committee has been entrusted with completing all electoral procedures.

Meanwhile, the party’s central committee meeting, convened by the establishment faction for 1 PM on Tuesday, has been boycotted by special convention supporters.

Central member Ajaybabu Shivakoti stated that the closed sessions and finalized election procedures are the current priority, preventing participation in the central committee meeting.

During the closed session, detailed discussions were held on the political and organizational reports presented on Monday by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma.

Nine groups were formed to deliberate on the reports, and each group leader presented their conclusions and recommendations to the floor on Tuesday.

According to leader Manojmani Acharya, leadership selection will formally begin once the group conclusions are compiled.

The special convention, which began on Sunday, is expected to define the party’s internal structure and future political direction.

With the leadership selection process added to the agenda, the convention is likely to extend over the next few days.
