KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has emphasized that the country is facing extraordinary challenges that cannot be addressed through traditional political practices alone.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the party’s central committee members at the party headquarters in Parisdanda on Tuesday, Dahal stressed the need for new ideas, programs, and initiatives to navigate the current political crisis.

He called on all political parties to conduct a self-review of past weaknesses and said the NCP has already committed to correcting its own shortcomings and advancing on a path of transformation.

Dahal also reiterated that the party unification process aims to strengthen national unity and reinforce Nepal’s sovereignty amid the ongoing challenges.

Highlighting the importance of collective action, he noted that over 20 communist factions have come together to confront the country’s political and social crises.

Meanwhile, NCP Co-Chair and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal confirmed that elections will be held as scheduled on Falgun 21 (early March) and urged party leaders and cadres to fully prepare.

Speaking at the same ceremony, he warned against complacency and emphasized proactive engagement in all election-related activities.

Nepal outlined steps the party is taking, including drafting an election manifesto and forming committees for campaign mobilization under Dahal’s leadership.

He stressed that the upcoming elections would be a crucial “test of fire” for the party and called for unity to ensure effective voter mobilization, protect votes, prevent electoral malpractices, and curb financial irregularities during the election process.

“The elections will test our strength. We must not wait passively but actively prepare. Committees for drafting the manifesto and election operations are already in motion, and all related tasks will follow,” said Co-Chair Nepal, urging party members to work together to safeguard the integrity of the election.
