KATHMANDU: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against former Karnali Province Chief Minister and Provincial Assembly member Rajkumar Sharma.

Sharma has been accused of aligning with the Progressive Democratic Party led by Janardan Sharma, prompting the NCP to consider his removal from the Provincial Assembly.

Party sources stated that NCP Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Co-Chair Madhav Nepal have sought a written explanation from Sharma.

A notice requesting his response within 24 hours, issued on Feb 5, has reportedly gone unanswered.

The party has demanded clarification on why Sharma should not be stripped of his party membership and his position in the parliamentary faction, citing engagement in activities against party discipline.

Sharma was elected as a Provincial Assembly member from Rukum West while representing the former CPN-Maoist Centre.
